UTS LitSoc's

Read-a-thon

This year, the UTS Literary Society will be holding a 24-hour read-a-thon with the purpose of raising funds for Story Factory!
How it works

If you want to participate in the read-a-thon, sign up via the link above. You will get your very own fundraising page and can ask your friends to sponsor you.

Get Ready

Throughout the 24 hours, you will have the option to read any amount of books of your choosing. If you would like to get prepared, plan what books you would like to read and the time it might take you to complete it!

Start the Challenge

We will be hosting the read-a-thon via the UTS LitSoc discord and on campus (CB02.06.290). Depending on how many hours you pledge, you can join from the very start (28 September 12pm) or any time within the 24-hour time period that suits you. We will also be playing games and taking breaks to keep ourselves sane throughout.

About STORY FACTORY

Who is Story Factory?

Since its foundation in 2012, Story Factory has positively impacted the wider community and has changed the lives of many young people through storytelling. We, at the UTS Literary Society, are incredibly proud to be donating the proceeds raised by our 24hr read-a-thon to this great cause.

2024 will be our fourth year of raising funds for the Story Factory! Our goal is to match our 2022 total of $5000, and beyond!

In 2023, the UTS Literary Society raised $2,368 for the Story Factory.

In 2022, the UTS Literary Society raised $5,000 for the Story Factory.

In 2021, the UTS Literary Society raised $4,245 for the Story Factory.

The incredible charity at the centre of our read-a-thon is The Story Factory, located in the heart of Sydney; the organisation works with young people from communities that are under-resourced.

Their storytelling workshops are crafted by creative writing and literacy specialists to help young people build writing skills, confidence and creative thinking, which are critical skills for shaping their future. The not-for-profit prioritises young people from Indigenous, culturally and linguistically diverse and lower socio-economic backgrounds. They run creative writing workshops all across Sydney, Western Sydney and NSW free of charge. Within each annual program, the Story Factory curates and publishes a selection of works written by its students, ranging from seven to seventeen years of age, from Western Sydney and beyond. This amazing initiative can be found on their website, where these brilliant writings are showcased and available to purchase.
